There are 2 type of network environments you can use

  1. Client Server
In a client server environment you have one or multiple servers that store files for multiple workstations such as Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows NT workstation. A server is simply another computer with that holds your files using  a server type operating system like Windows NT server or Windows 2000 server.
  2. Peer to Peer
A Peer to Peer network environment is the simplest of network situations in where you have multiple workstations that are connected together by means of a HUB, there is no server. All workstations can see shared resources (Folders and Files)  on the other work stations. This is not the most stable network situation but is acceptable for small business.

To decide which network environment would be suitable for your needs you should contact a reputable computer consulting company in your area.

After you have implemented your network just follow the instructions below to configure Estimator 2.0 for your multiple user environment.

Setting up Estimator 2.0 for a multi-user configuration

1. You will need to install Microsoft Access for the version of Estimator 2.0 that you are using on at least one of the workstations containing Estimator 2.0.
2. Select a dedicated server or workstation to house your application data (EstData.mdb file).
3. Place a copy of the EstData.mdb database file in a folder on the selected computer and share that folder to the rest of the computers on the network giving them full access .
4. From the computer that you have installed Microsoft Access open Estimator 2.0

5. From the maintenance link on the menu bar select Link Tables.

6. The linked table manager window lists all the tables in the EstData.mdb database and all the tables in the EstUserData.mdb database.
Check the box next to all the tables from the EstDate.mdb database only.
Check the box at the bottom of the form labeled Always pornpt for new location then click OK.

7. From the Look In dropdown list of the next form select network neighborhood and click the Open button.

8. Highlite the workstation or server name that you have saved the EstData.mdb file to and click Open.

9. Highlite the shared folder that you have saved the EstData.mdb file to and click Open.

10. Highlite the EstData.mdb file and click Open.

11. Now Estimator 2.0 will relink all the tables to the EstData.mdb database to the new location.

After you get the (All selected tables were successfully refreshed) message click OK then close the Linked Table Manager and Exit out of Estimator 2.0.

To complete your muti-user configuration you will need to update all the other computers using Estimator 2.0.

The fastest and easiest way to do that is make sure all users have exited out of Estimator 2.0, then go to the Estimator folder on the current computer and highlite the Estimator 2.0.mde file then press Ctrl+C on your keyboard to place a copy of the Estimator 2.0.mde file in the clipboard.

Then through network neighborhood go to the Estimator folder on each of the computers using Estimator 2.0 and press Ctrl+V to place a new copy over the existing file.

After all computers have been updated you will be working in a multi-users environment with Estimator 2.0
